SURVEY SAYS
New scores from diners surveyed for the 2001 Zagat Guide for Orlando/Central Florida rated our best on the Z-scale of 1 to 30:
29: Not here. The nearest almost-perfect scores were in Orlando at La Coquina in Hyatt Grand Cypress and Louis' Downtown.
28: Best food scores here, won by Blue Heron's New American fusion in Palm Harbor and Caffe Paradiso's polished Italian in Tampa.
Six Tables, serving prix-fixe Continental in private settings in Dunedin, Largo and Tampa, won a promising 28, too -- with a caveat that there was a low number of comments so far.
27: Next best scores went to Maritana Grille, Grill at Feather Sound, SideBern's, Bern's, Mise en Place and the Beach Bistro.
New Zagat's on sale soon. Someday the Gulf Coast will get its own, not just back pages in Orlando's.
NEW IN TOWN
Centro Ybor fills out its menu with Mezzanotte, the high-end Italian club from South Florida, opening Friday.
I'VE HAD ENOUGH...
Caesar salad. Especially with the high price of romaine. At Lowry Park Zoo, where patients in the manatee hospital each eat four crates of romaine a day, keepers sometimes try cheaper bok choy and napa. Maybe we should, too.
