STAY HERE IN THE GARDEN: The musical The Secret Garden continues Thursdays and weekends through Jan. 28 at Stage West Community Playhouse, 8390 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. Shows are at 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $14 for adults and $7 for students 17 and younger. HEAVEN AND HELL: The Heaven and Hell Duathlon will be Jan. 14 at Gran Canyon Mountain Bike Park on Cooper Terrace Road, east of Brooksville. Participants bike and run for 9 miles in the first race and 16 miles in the second. Races begin at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Spectator admission is $3 for adults; children free. UP IN ARMS: The Brooksville Raid Festival Civil War re-enactment will be Jan. 20 and 21 at the Sand Hill Scout Reservation on State Road 50, east of Weeki Wachee. The event features military encampments, vendors and battle re-enactments both days. For information, call 799-0129.

JAZZ IT UP: Members of the Hernando Jazz Society will perform from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at the SNPJ Hall at 13383 County Line Road in Spring Hill. Admission is $2 for members, $5 for non-members.

UNCOMMON THREADS: The fibre art exhibit "A Thread Runs through It" continues at Pasco Arts Center, 5744 Moog Road, Holiday through Feb. 28. Curtain calls

This year's deadline for the the Will McLean Foundation's Best New Florida Song Contest is Feb. 1. Songwriters may submit up to three songs about people, history, heritage, natural beauties or "critters" of Florida. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in the adult and under-18 categories. Winning songwriters are invited to perform at the annual Will McLean Music Festival on March 10 and 11 at the Sertoma Youth Ranch. For information, call (352) 465-7208.

Stage West Community Playhouse will hold auditions for Victor, Victoria at 7 p.m. Feb. 9 and 1 p.m. Feb. 10. Acting and singing parts are available for two women ages 25-60 and three men ages 25-65. Several more non-singing roles and dancing roles also are available.

Those interested in singing parts are asked to prepare a short Broadway number and bring sheet music. Tapes are not allowed. Those auditioning for dance roles also must sing.

Production dates are Thursdays and weekends May 10-27. The theater is at 8390 Forest Oaks Blvd. in Spring Hill. For information, call (352) 683-5113.

New Millennia Studio will hold auditions for its upcoming season at 3 p.m. today at the studio, 316 S Broad St., Brooksville. Productions will include Romance/Romance in February, Fool for Love in May, Quilters in October and November and A Celtic Christmas Carol in December. Those interested should prepare a 2-3 minute monologue and a song no longer than 32 bars. Bring sheet music in the appropriate key. For information, call 848-0901.
