EDUCATION: UT alumni children and grandchildren are eligible for a $1,000 scholarship sponsored by The UT National Alumni Association. Preference will be given to eligible high school seniors who have applied for admission to the August 2001 freshman class. Scholarship application materials must be received by Monday. Recipients will be announced in the spring. Call Natalie Preston at (813) 253-6268 to request scholarship criteria.

USF's Educational Outreach program will host an open house on Wednesday, Jan. 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. on the Tampa campus. This event provides information on a variety of non-credit continuing education programs from personal to professional development. At the open house, program coordinators and instructors will be available to discuss how these programs can meet your needs and interests. Call (813) 974-2403, ext. 817.

EXHIBITS: UT will present the Breaking Boundaries exhibit Jan. 19 through March 2 at UT's Scarfone/Hartley Galleries. The exhibit features works in progress and completed works from some of the past century's most influential musicians, composers, writers, poets, choreographers, painters, sculptors, playwrights and directors. The public also is invited to the gallery preview talk by Judith Page, curator, on Jan. 18 at 11 a.m., and an opening reception from 7-9 p.m. Jan. 19. Running concurrently with the exhibit is a paintings and monoprints exhibition by Ed Paschke, including a gallery talk by the artist Feb. 8 at 11 a.m. Admission is free. USF's Contemporary Art Museum will feature a new installation commissioned by contemporary Aboriginal artist, Fiona Foley. The exhibition is scheduled for Jan. 12 through Jan. 27. A gallery tour will take place today from 6-7 p.m., with a reception following from 7-9 p.m. Foley's work addresses issues of identity, influenced by her heritage, as well as her recent exposure to the Seminole Indians of Florida. A historical exhibition of Aboriginal bark paintings and Native American art and artifacts will complement Foley's project. This event is free. Call (813) 974-4133.

UT presents the exhibit Pirates and Pearls . . . Gasparilla! from Friday. through March 18 at the Henry B. Plant Museum. This exhibit provides a glimpse at the early beginnings and flavor of Gasparilla. A variety of memorabilia, archival photographs and vintage costumes are displayed. Free to museum members, non-members $5. Call (813) 253-6232.
