'McConnell, I wish you the best'

© St. Petersburg Times, published January 14, 2001

Editor: Re: McConnell quits sheriff's office in "bittersweet" act, Jan. 4 Hernando Times:

Eddie McConnell, I will remember you for a long time. I was glad you were running for sheriff. I personally voted for you. I believe a lot of your fellow officers would have voted for you, too.

Unfortunately, politics is dirty business. Some people are so desperate to keep their jobs that they are afraid to go against their instincts.

You were an asset to the department. As in any job, there are rotten apples. There are some sheriffs with deep compassion who aren't afraid to go against the grain.

You, sir, will always have my admiration. You were one of the best.

Any department would be honored to have you, and I sincerely wish you the best in all your future endeavors.

Hold your head high, Eddie McConnell. You are a decent human being, and you will be a success. God bless you.

Commissioner Kingsley wrong in backing EDC

Editor: Re: Meeting turns testy over EDC discussion, Jan. 10 Hernando Times:

In the past, I have regretted voting for Commissioner Chris Kingsley, especially when he pushed for a community pool. Now it looks to me as if he has a hidden agenda regarding the Economic Development Commission.

How could anyone be in their corner after their past actions, which are too negative and too numerous to mention.

I am very happy in my decision to vote for Commissioner Diane Rowden. She really has a grasp early in her administration. She should be the next chair. The EDC contract should be eliminated as soon as possible.
