Carrollwood

OLD-FASHIONED HARDWARE STORE CLOSES: The neighborhood hardware shop that carried many items superstores didn't carry, Village Hardware Inc., closed its doors a week ago after many years in Carrollwood. Just this summer, they moved from the West Village Plaza to a bigger store at 4116 Gunn Highway between Gold Cup Coffee and Patio Pools.

SEWING CENTER OPENS: Keep Me In Stitches is open at 14833 N Dale Mabry Highway next to Michael's Arts and Crafts Inc., in the Marketplace North plaza. This specialty center offers high quality sewing machines, sergers, fabrics and furniture. It also offers classes for sewers at all levels. Owners Melissa Helms and Veronica Bermudez share a cumulative total of more than 40 years of business and sewing experience. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, but they are open in the evening for classes. For information, call (813) 908-3889.

New Tampa

ICE CREAM SHOP CLOSES: Bresler's Ice Cream and Yogurt in the New Tampa Center on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard has shut down after nearly four years in business. The closing comes about five months after Dairy Queen opened down the road in the Shoppes of New Tampa. A new tenant will likely take over the space in the next 30 to 45 days, said David Fasano, property manager of the shopping center, which includes Publix and Blockbuster Video. A few food vendors are interested, he said.
