    Woman dies after being struck by automobile

    TAMPA -- A car struck and killed a woman Friday night as she walked across Hillsborough Avenue.

    Robert Clarke Snyder II, 52, was driving east on Hillsborough Avenue east of Tudor Drive at 6:50 p.m. when he hit the woman, who had walked into the car's path, according to police. She was thrown onto the windshield of his 1998 Mazda and later died at St. Joseph's Hospital, police said.

    No charges were filed against Snyder.

    The woman's identity was being withheld until her relatives were notified. She was between 35 and 45 years old.

    Gunman holds up Pinellas Park Pizza Hut

    PINELLAS PARK -- A man with a gun robbed a Pizza Hut delivery store Friday night and escaped with $237.38. The man entered the Pizza Hut at 8070 49th St. N about 10:30 p.m. Friday, pointed a black revolver at the store manager and demanded money, according to the Pinellas Park police. After the manager gave the gunman money from the cash drawer, the suspect ordered the manager into the store cooler. The suspect is described as a white male 18 to 20 years old, 6 feet tall, with a medium build, weighing about 180 pounds and wearing a short-sleeved green shirt, tan baggy pants and tennis shoes.

    12 men face charges of gambling at pool hall

    ST. PETERSBURG -- Police arrested a dozen men on gambling charges Friday night after police found them playing dice at a pool hall at 2315 28th St. N. After a community police officer learned about the gambling, police watched the pool hall and saw the men gambling inside, police said. The owner of the pool hall, Chantho Sounthala of 4439 58th St. N, is charged with bookmaking and running a gambling house. Eleven other men also face misdemeanor gambling charges. Police also seized a video poker machine and $12,709 in cash.

    Crash victim remains in critical condition

    ST. PETERSBURG -- A Largo High School student remained in critical condition Saturday at Bayfront Medical Center after being injured in a car crash Friday afternoon.

    Angela Bernardini, 17, of Pinellas Park was hurt when her car was hit by a motorist with a suspended license who ran a red light, police said.

    Bernardini was turning left from northbound Missouri Avenue onto Belleair Road as the light was turning from yellow to red, said Clearwater police. She was hit by a southbound Mercedes driven by Robert Lee Knowles, 34, of St. Petersburg.

    Knowles was in fair condition Saturday at Bayfront. His passenger, Timothy Giezentanner, 22, of Clearwater, was treated there and released.

    Knowles faces felony charges of driving with a suspended license, police said.

    Inhaling smoke sends man to hospital after car fire

    A man who inhaled smoke in a Largo car fire Friday was hospitalized in serious condition Saturday at Shands at the University of Florida, Gainesville. Gary Diegler-Wisemandle, 45, was flown to Shands Friday after Largo firefighters found him unconscious in the front seat of a burning car at Largo Middle School. When firefighters arrived, flames were pouring from under the hood of the car. Diegler-Wisemandle suffered slight burns and severe smoke inhalation.

    Man found shot to death in St. Petersburg alley

    ST. PETERSBURG -- A man was found shot to death in an alley Saturday night, and police were investigating.

    The man, who appeared to be in his late teens or in his 20s, was found shortly after 8:30 p.m. in an alley just south of 22nd Avenue S and between Seventh and Eighth streets. He was lying on his back near the Lakeview Terrace Apartments.

    The dead man's name was not released, pending notification of his family.

    Police were told that a heavyset man in a brown jacket had been seen running away.

    Officers cordoned off the area and knocked on doors, speaking to neighborhood residents.

    No arrests were made Saturday.
