Travelogue on Alaska scheduled this month

CLEARWATER -- The Kiwanis Club of Greater Clearwater will have its first travelogue in a series beginning today. John Holod will present his film, Alaska RV Adventure -- The Last Great Road Trip.

It will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army Community Center Auditorium, 1625 N Belcher Road, Clearwater.

Gulf Coast Community Care needs volunteers

CLEARWATER -- The Gulf Coast Community Care Program, based in Clearwater, is looking for volunteers for two of its programs:

The Adopt-A-Grandchild program needs mature adults 50 and older to spend time with children on a one-to-one basis. It requires from two to four hours a week to establish a close, loving relationship with the child.

Linking Lifetimes needs volunteers 35 and older who would spend two to four hours a week participating in various activities with a child, acting as a role model and a mentor.

Preschooler workshop scheduled this month

LARGO -- Kathy Rankin will lead a workshop with crafts, games and special learning projects for preschoolers and their parents or day care providers from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday. It will be at George McGough Nature Center, located at Largo Narrows, 11901 146th St. N.

A parent or day care provider must stay with the child. The fee is $3 per child; each youngster needs to bring a lunch. The workshop also gives approved training hours for day care providers through the Pinellas County License Board. Registration is necessary; call 518-3047.

Series of free law classes set at SPJC campus

CLEARWATER -- You don't have to be a lawyer to learn about the law. The People's Law School, a series of free sessions sponsored by the Clearwater Bar Association, will begin Thursday.

All classes, taught by local judges or lawyers, will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. in the teaching auditorium of St. Petersburg Junior College, at 2465 Drew St. in Clearwater.

People can attend as few or as many sessions as they wish. There is no homework. Seating is limited, but registration not necessary. For information, call 461-4869.

CLEARWATER -- DivorceCare seminars and support group meetings are from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Clearwater First Church of the Nazarene, 1875 Nursery Road, Clearwater. Each session features a videotape, followed by a support group meeting. Topics to be covered include facing anger, depression, loneliness, financial survival, child care, new relationships and more. Program puts pets, seniors together

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Pinellas County, 9099 130th Ave. N, Largo, matches pets with senior citizens in the Pets for People program. Seniors ages 60 and older can take home a specially matched pet and the adoption fee and the first veterinarian visit are covered. For information, call 586-3591.
