Essay contest for Pinellas County fifth gradersBy Times staff reports © St. Petersburg Times, published January 16, 2001 To coincide with its African-American Scientist and Inventors exhibit, the Science Center of Pinellas County is sponsoring an essay contest for fifth-graders throughout the county. Each essay must describe an African-American scientist or inventor. They should be submitted on no more than two typewritten 8 1/2-by-11-inch pages. On a separate sheet, students should list the following: their name, grade (fifth), school, teacher's name, home phone number, school phone number and T-shirt size. The first-place prize will include a one-week summer workshop at the Science Center and a free laser presentation for the winner's whole class. The deadline for receiving the essays is Feb. 2.
