Streaking Heat keeps Pistons tumbling

MIAMI -- Anthony Mason scored 23 points and grabbed a season-high 18 rebounds as the Heat beat the Detroit Pistons 93-85 Tuesday night.

Miami won its eighth straight home game and 10th in its past 13 overall.

Jerry Stackhouse scored 28 points for Detroit, which dropped its sixth straight and ninth in 10 games. Stackhouse shot 11-of-30 from the field, 3-of-15 in the second half.

Miami point guard Tim Hardaway left in the third quarter with a lower back strain. He finished with nine points in 20 minutes.

BUCKS 112, CLIPPERS 91: Ray Allen scored 32 points and Glenn Robinson had 29 points and 12 rebounds as Milwaukee won its fifth straight. The Bucks made 47 of 85 shots and won their 10th straight at home for the 14th time in franchise history.

ROCKETS 114, RAPTORS 99: Cuttino Mobley scored 26 points and Maurice Taylor had a season-high 24 as Houston improved to 5-1 against Toronto at home and snapped the Raptors' three-game winning streak.

BLAZERS 103, CAVALIERS 83: Bonzi Wells had 20 points and Steve Smith 19 for host Portland, which won its 12th in 13 games.

Penny may miss season

PHOENIX -- Suns guard Penny Hardaway, still bothered by an injured left knee, probably will miss the rest of the season.

"It has become apparent that only time and continued therapy and rehabilitation will allow for his productive return," general manager Bryan Colangelo said. "As disappointing as this is, we must be prepared to forge on and complete the season without Penny."

Hardaway left practice without speaking to reporters, and coach Scott Skiles declined to discuss the situation.

JAZZ: The league suspended center Olden Polynice for one game after he pleaded guilty to charges of impersonating a police officer and disorderly conduct in a traffic confrontation in Salt Lake City. Polynice was sentenced to 18 months of probation and ordered to pay $500 in fines and get counseling. He also will perform community service at a local Boys & Girls Club, said his lawyer, Wally Bugden. He will miss Utah's game tonight against Minnesota.

KNICKS: A contrite Marcus Camby awaited word on punishment for throwing a punch at an opponent but instead decking his coach. "I regret that I lost my cool, because that's not me," Camby said. "Those who have been around me since I've been here know that I'm an easygoing-type guy. I just lost it when I saw that blood, and I was truly, truly in the wrong."

In the fourth quarter of a game Monday between the Knicks and Spurs, Danny Ferry hit Camby in the right eye while going for a rebound, cutting Camby above the eye and turning it bloodshot.

Camby became enraged, eventually chasing an unaware Ferry, who had been ejected, and throwing a looping right hand at the back of his head. Knicks coach Jeff Van Gundy stepped between them at the last moment. He and Camby butted heads, causing cuts above the left eye of each.
