The week in reviewBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published January 21, 2001 A look back at the week's top stories: AGENT IS OUT: Andy Rose, a University of Florida agricultural extension agent who has clashed with Citrus County officials over the county dress code, will be transferred next month to Sumter County. Citrus officials requested the transfer, saying Rose repeatedly refused to wear a necktie at the office, as the dress code requires. The situation escalated into insubordination last week, Interim County Administrator Richard Wesch said. NEW SCHOOL ISSUE: The community activist who recently interrupted the prayer before the School Board meeting last week with a pagan incantation now is pushing another hot-button topic with the school district. Charles Schrader, a Marion County resident, is seeking information about the district's non-discrimination policy and is especially interested in whether the policy protects the rights of students based on their sexual orientation. UTSEY INDICTED: A Citrus County grand jury indicted James Henry Utsey on a first-degree murder charge in the Dec. 27 shooting of his mother outside a DeRosa convenience store. VOTE REVIEW: The Miami Herald and Republican Party leaders spent about 90 minutes at the Supervisor of Elections Office on Thursday reviewing overvotes and undervotes from the presidential election. A separate group of news organizations, including the St. Petersburg Times, has hired a non-profit survey research firm to analyze ballots that were counted and registered as overvotes or undervotes. The group has asked Citrus to provide photocopies of the Citrus overvotes and undervotes. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
