Hometown HernandoBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published January 21, 2001 Thanks to the thoughtfulness and hard work of William Cooper of Brooksville, the Dawn Center will be more sports friendly for children who make the center their temporary home. Cooper, a member of Boy Scout Troop 796, along with friends, family and other troop members, recently put up two new basketball hoops and built five benches around groups of trees so the players and/or spectators have a place to sit and rest. Cooper, 17, chose his project to earn his Eagle Scout rank, the highest achievement a Scout can earn. Several local businesses donated materials, including Home Depot, Lowes, Cox Lumber Co., Scotty's, Kmart, Sears and Play It Again Sports. Tropical Sportswear International gave a $500 cash donation. According to Cooper, the value of the contributions totaled $1,750. Troop 796 meets at 7 p.m. each Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 21043 Yontz Road, Brooksville.
