Baras makes dean's list at Columbia University

Jacqueline Baras, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. David Baras of St. Petersburg, was named to the dean's list at Columbia University for the fall 2000 semester.

The 2000 graduate of the International Baccalaureate program at St. Petersburg High School was a National Merit finalist.

Student's art chosen for national exhibit

The artwork of Christin Ripley, daughter of Stephen and Cynthia Ripley of St. Petersburg, has been selected for the College Board's advanced placement studio art exhibit. The national showcase will be at Gallery 37 in Chicago through January following shows in New York City and Princeton, N.J.

A senior at Gibbs High School, Christin is a student of AP studio art teacher Laurance Miller. Her work was chosen from 400,000 pieces submitted for the June 2000 AP studio art portfolio evaluation.

A visual arts student since sixth grade, Christin has consistently maintained a high grade point average and recently was inducted into the National Honor Society.

She is considering advanced art studies at several institutes including Rhode Island School of Design, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
