Golf Trust of America, the real estate company that owns Silverthorn and announced in November it plans to liquidate its holdings, recently said that it has sold two more courses.
As with its first round of sales, Golf Trust sold holdings to companies managing the courses.
The company sold Raintree Golf Course and Ohio Prestwick Country Club, two 18-hole layoutsnear Akron, Ohio, to the prior owner of Raintree Golf Course, for $10.65-million.
The company announced a net gain of $1-million, which, according to an Internet news release, "will be used to reduce outstanding indebtedness."
On Nov.17, Golftrust sold Emerald Dunes, Polo Trace and Cypress Creek, in the Palm Beach area, for $35-million to affiliates of Emerald Dunes Golf Group, who are lessees for the courses.
Andy Beemis, Silverthorn's director of golf and an employee of Legends Resorts, which manages the course, said he has heard of no timetable for selling the course.
TANGERINE: Anyone who participated in the Tangerine Bowl Tournament last year at Brooksville Golf & Country Club can soon expect an entry form in the mail.
Those who didn't play but wish to enter the March 24-25 event may request a form by calling Paul Attard, (352) 796-8879.
The Tangerine, in its 31st year, is the oldest tournament in Hernando County. The entry fee is $125 and includes a practice round (available for cart costs), dinner for two on March 24, two rounds of golf and prizes.
A $200 merchandise certificate will be awarded to the winner of each flight. Attard said $500-600 in prizes will be awarded per flight.
"This is open to the public, so anyone interested can call," Attard said. PARTNERS: GlenLakes head pro Shay Smart and assistant Joey Ludeman are playing in the North Florida PGA Four-ball Invitational, which concludes today at Grenelefe Golf and Tennis Resort in Orlando. Seventy-nine two-man teams entered in search of more than $22,000 in prize money. The winning squad will earn $4,500.
HOLE-IN-ONES: Betty Dunstan of the Brookridge 18-hole Ladies League recorded her first ace Jan.16 on the 135-yard, par-3 third hole at Brookridge County Club.
Bill Connelly, 75, hit his first hole-in-one on Tuesday on the 145-yard 17th at Rivard Golf and Country Club.
