WESLEY CHAPEL -- The final record of 4-16-3 doesn't adequately reflect the progress of the Wesley Chapel boys team or the damage it could do in the district tournament.

The optimism stems from the Wildcats' 2-3-1 record in Class A, District 7. An impressive feat for a team that went 0-18-1 last season.

"We're at least competitive in the district," coach Jimmy Hymiller said.

Third-seed Wesley Chapel opens the A-7 tournament at Lakeland Santa Fe Catholic on Tuesday at 8 p.m. against No. 2 Berkeley Prep (3-2-1 in the district).

Wesley Chapel had a loss and a tie against Berkeley Prep in the regular season.

Mike Camunas (9 goals, 21 points) and David Gillis (6 goals, 16 points) lead the Wildcat offense, which scored 25 goals this season after managing only two a year ago.

Joey Zummo and Chad Jones man the defense in front of keeper Tim Davis.

Wesley Chapel's girls completed their second season without a victory. The fifth-seeded Wildcats (0-6-2 in the district) play No. 4 Tampa Prep (1-4-3) Monday at 4:30 p.m. at Berkeley Prep.

The Wildcats enter the series with a loss and a tie against their first-round opponent.

Sara Harrison leads Wesley Chapel with two goals and Cortney Curtis is the top defender.
