ATLANTA -- Florida State's plan was to make Alvin Jones win the game for Georgia Tech.
Unfortunately for the Seminoles, he did.
The 6-foot-11 senior had 26 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocked shots Saturday as the Yellow Jackets won 77-68, keeping Florida State winless in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Jones' performance helped the Yellow Jackets overcome their worst three-point shooting of the season. Tech entered the game averaging 10 three-pointers a contest but hit 4 of 19 against Florida State.
"We said we were not going to be beaten by the three-point shot, and if they went to Alvin, he was going to have to beat us," said Monte Cummings, who led the Seminoles with 17 points. "But he played a great game and put his team in position to win."
Jones has scored 26 in consecutive games, and he has more than 20 in three of the past four.
"It's been a great career for me so far," said Jones, a Lakeland Kathleen standout who contemplated entering the NBA draft after his junior season. "This is like icing on the cake. I have really enjoyed this season."
None of the players the Seminoles used at center could contain Jones, and starter Mike Mathews and reserve David Anderson fouled out trying. Nigel Dixon, a 6-foot-10, 350-pounder who had started 11 games for Florida State, did not make the trip. His absence was not explained.
"Naturally, we could have used Nigel today," Seminoles coach Steve Robinson said. "It was just unfortunate that we did not have him."
Antwuan Dixon added 15 for Florida State, which has lost six straight, and point guard Delvin Arrington had 10 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds and 6 steals.
