Move over, Debbie Allen. There is a new choreographer on the block, and he'll be in Tampa on Sunday.

Darrin Henson, "choreographer to the stars," will be giving lessons to aspiring dancers at the Doubletree Hotel Tampa Airport-Westshore.

Darrin's Dance Grooves Tour had one previous stop in Atlanta for his hip-hop and jazz workshop and is going on a country-wide tour after the Tampa appearance.

The day will consist of classes with Henson and other choreographers from New York and Los Angeles, a question-and-answer session, plus autographs and picture signing throughout the day.

Henson said there's never an age limit. In Atlanta, dancers from 5 to 50 came out, he said, though most were in the 12- to 20-year-old range.

Henson's resume includes 'N Sync's Bye, Bye, Bye video, which earned him the 2000 MTV Award for best choreography; he was design director and choreographer for Jennifer Lopez's performance of Love Don't Cost a Thing for the 2001 American Music Awards, as well as choreographing the video. He was also the creative director for the Britney Spears Tour.

Other stars he's worked with include Christina Aguilera, Prince and Michael Jackson.

Henson has been delving into a little acting, recently landing a starring role on the Showtime drama series Soul Food.

Why did such an experienced artist decide to take his dance shop on tour?

"To watch their faces light up is everything, and when I hear that my work influences them positively, I know that is what it is all about," Henson said.
