Best bet

WHO: Hernando, North Marion, Leesburg, Central, Lecanto, Springstead, Lake Weir.

WHAT: Class 4A, District 7 girls basketball tournament.

WHERE: Hernando.

WHY: Two playoff berths are on the line, and the Leopards have home-court advantage and a first-round bye. Their lone district loss came against North Marion, and they would have to face them only in the district final. The path is tougher for the county's other two teams. Springstead needs to beat Leesburg and likely North Marion, and Central would need to upset Hernando in Thursday's semifinal to earn a post-season berth. MONDAY: Hernando girls at Pasco, 1 p.m.; Springstead boys at Crystal River, 5:30/7.

TUESDAY: Class 4A, District 7 girls tournament at Hernando: Central vs. Lecanto, 4:30 p.m.; Leesburg vs. Springstead, 6; North Marion vs. Lake Weir, 7:30.

TUESDAY: Hernando boys at Lecanto, 5:30/7 p.m.; Central boys vs. South Sumter, 5:30/7; Springstead vs. Citrus, 5:30/7.

THURSDAY: Class 4A, District 7 girls semifinals at Hernando, 6/8 p.m.

FRIDAY: Central boys vs. Lecanto, 5:30/7 p.m.

SATURDAY: Class 4A, District 7 girls finals at Hernando, 8 p.m.

THURSDAY: Central boys in regional quarterfinals, site TBA, 7:30 p.m.

FRIDAY-SATURDAY: Central, Hernando at Springstead in Class A, District 7 tournament.
