SMOKE-FREE RESTAURANT: As of Jan. 29, customers can enjoy their breakfast in a healthier, smoke-free environment at Perkins Restaurant, 12650 N Dale Mabry Highway near Stall Road. Manager Bill Auclair got approval from his corporate headquarters to make this Perkins smoke-free seven days a week after the smoking section sat empty while many customers waited in line for the non-smoking section.
The restaurant had been smoke-free on weekends from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays for a year and a half. Auclair said he has had both negative and positive responses from customers.
He expects to lose about 3 percent of the customers but has received mostly positive responses. Now non-smokers won't have to wait as long to be seated, he said, and most customers said they will come back more often. For information, call (813) 908-0750.
UPSCALE SPORTS BAR OPENS: Peabody's Billiards and Games has opened in the Palm Lake shopping center in New Tampa. The upscale sports bar and restaurant features 15 tournament-size pool tables, 50 televisions, darts, video games and a golf simulator. Peabody's replaces Six Pockets, a popular pool hall that closed last year. Hours are from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Sundays. The menu includes appetizers, sandwiches, dinner entrees and hand-tossed pizza. Happy hour runs from 4 to 7 p.m. weekdays.
