Hernando in briefBy Times staff reports © St. Petersburg Times, published February 5, 2001 Free legal consultations provided to residentsBROOKSVILLE -- The Ask-a-Lawyer program will have several attorneys available in the Hernando County Commission chambers, 20 N Main St., Brooksville, to provide free legal consultations to county residents from 9 a.m. to noon today. This service will include reviewing documents, such as wills, contracts, deeds, etc. and to answer questions about legal issues with no cost or obligation. No appointments are necessary. This is a public service by the members of the Hernando County Bar Association. Married couples invited to renew wedding vowsTo celebrate Valentine's Day, the Rev. Dan Holloway will preside over a renewal of wedding vows at noon Feb. 11 at the Unity Church of Port Richey Chapel. The ceremony is open to the public, and all married couples regardless of church affiliation are invited to attend and re-commit their love to one another. To register, call the church office, (727) 848-7702. Tax assistance given at two library branchesThe Hernando County Public Library System will offer tax assistance at two branches beginning today. The East Hernando Branch Library in Ridge Manor at 754-4443 will provide volunteers from the V.I.T.A program on Mondays from 1 to 5 p.m. The West Hernando/Foggia Library at 596-5606 will be providing tax assistance through RSVP Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For information, call either branch. Competitors needed for run, fun walkChinsegut Nature Center will hold its fifth annual Chinsegut Run and Fun Walk Feb. 17. The center is about 7 miles north of Brooksville on U.S. 41, then a mile west of Lake Lindsey Road. The race course winds through old growth longleaf-turkey oak forest and oak hammocks on woods trails. Packet pickup and late registration is at 7:30 a.m. The 5K starts at 8:30 a.m.; the 1-mile fun walk starts at 8:35 a.m. Entry fees are $10 for the 5K ($12 after Friday); $6 for the 1-mile walk ($8 after Friday). Arts program features history and dessertsThe Hernando County Fine Arts Council announces another "Desserts with the Arts" 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Pasco-Hernando Community College Spring Hill campus, 11245 Spring Hill Drive. Robert Marsh will present "The History of Florida." The program and dessert are free to members; all others pay $3. The program is conducted by the membership committee to foster awareness of all the arts in Hernando County and to provide increased benefits to membership. Reservations are required.
