    National School Counseling Week

    The Pinellas Professional School Counselors Association celebrates National School Counseling Week through Sunday. The week salutes the services that school counselors provide, including securing scholarships, offering scheduling assistance, working with human rights issues and assisting with transitions from school to school and grade to grade. During this week, the association encourages the community to get to know its school counselors.

    Cable in the Classroom Grant awards

    Last week, Time Warner Communications awarded Cable in the Classroom mini-grants to 15 Pinellas County teachers. The grants will be used to fund cable classroom projects. Awards went to Ellen J. Sackman of Largo Central Elementary School; Joey Miazga of Seminole Middle School; Nancy Millichamp and Susan Duncan, both of Madeira Beach Middle School; Patricia Cone of Hamilton Disston Exceptional Education School; Jennifer Marshall of Dunedin Highland Middle School; Leslie J. Pohley of Largo Middle School; Susan T. Hoffacker of Largo High School; Sharon J. Feen of PTEC-St. Petersburg Campus; Bennie R. Smith of Bay Point Middle School; Sherrie Williams of Dixie Hollins High School; Terri Roberts of Eisenhower Elementary School; Connie Dierking of Curtis Fundamental School; Gayle Clark of Curlew Creek Elementary School; Ivette R. Correa of Oak Grove Middle School; and Jennifer A. Kennedy of Forest Lakes Elementary School.

    SAT preparation classes

    St. Petersburg Junior College is offering SAT preparation classes Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon beginning Feb. 24 at the St. Petersburg Junior College-Allstate Center in St. Petersburg and SPJC's Seminole, Clearwater and Tarpon Springs campuses. The course uses a new curriculum that combines math and verbal review. It features official retired practice tests, remedial exercises review questions and test-taking strategies. The cost, which includes the course textbook, is $89.

    Classes also will be held at six Pinellas County high schools. Classes will run from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. March 6 through May 3 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Boca Ciega, Countryside, Dunedin, East Lake and Palm Harbor high schools.     Course offered in positive parenting

    The Love and Logic Institute will host a seminar on positive parenting from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 27 at the Harborview Center, 800 Cleveland St., Clearwater. The cost is $89. For reservations or more information, call 1-800-588-5644.
