Workshops will present funding opportunities

The National Endowment for the Humanities will hold two workshops to present funding opportunities for Florida schools and non-profit cultural institutions from 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 11:15 p.m. Saturday in Davis Hall, University of South Florida, 140 Seventh Ave. S, St. Petersburg. Workshops will present longstanding and new funding programs offered through Extending the Reach, a initiative to strengthen the humanities in areas of the country that have not participated as fully as others. Friday's workshop is aimed at museums, libraries, archives, historical organizations, media producers and historically black, Hispanic-serving and tribal colleges and universities. Walk for Parkinson's disease is Feb. 28

A benefit walk for the Parkinson's Disease Coalition/University of South Florida Foundation will begin at noon Feb. 28. The start for the 2-mile walk will be the parking lot at 740 Carillon Parkway, St. Petersburg. For information, call 573-4701 or 573-4725.

America's Youngest Jazz Band is looking for kids

Sonny LaRosa and America's Youngest Jazz Band seeks child musicians under the age of 13 to play saxophone, trombone, trumpet, guitar, bass or piano, or sing. Beginners will be considered. For information, call 725-1788.

Recycled cans, newspaper benefit program

St. Paul United Methodist Church offers a newspaper and aluminum can recycling depot at the church's Christian Life Enrichment Center, 1199 Highland Ave., Largo. The bins will be located on the northeast corner of the Rosery Road and Highland Avenue intersection. Proceeds from recycled materials will benefit Handicapable Ministry, a non-profit outreach program for devolpmentally disabled persons. For information, call 584-8165.

25 cats available for adoption at special rate

Friends of Strays has 25 adult cats who have been at the center for more than six months. These special cats need homes. The agency is offering a reduced adoption fee of only $25 until Feb. 19. Call 522-6566 for information.
