Veterans Information Day starts at 9 this morning

HOMOSASSA -- Disabled American Veterans Suncoast Chapter 139 will present a Veterans Information Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the chapter hall, 8940 W Veterans Drive, Homosassa, just off U.S. 19, south of the Crystal River Airport. Turn at Dixson Auto sales and Harvey's Mobile Homes.

Officers from the VA Medical Center in Gainesville and the Disabled American Veterans National Service Officers will be on hand to answer questions about claims, the VA medical center, veterans' rights and more.

The Veterans Mobile Service Center van also will be available to assist homeless veterans. It will have facilities to check dentistry, do partial physical exams and deal with other problems homeless veterans might have. No appointment necessary. Veterans wishing to file claims must bring their DD 214 records with them. If any veteran or member of the community at large knows of a homeless veteran, try to bring him or her to the DAV Chapter for immediate assistance. For information, call 795-5155 on Mondays or Tuesdays between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Girls invited to enter Miss Strawberry pageants

FLORAL CITY -- The Citrus County Chamber of Commerce invites contestants to participate in the Little Miss Strawberry Princess and our Miss Strawberry Princess pageants at the 14th Annual Strawberry Festival at Floral Park, Floral City.

The pageants will be on March 4. The Little Miss Strawberry Princess Pageant begins at 2 p.m. and the Miss Strawberry Princess Pageant at 3 p.m.

Contestants must be at least 4 years old but not older than 12 by March 4. Contestants must be a resident of Citrus County. Each contestant will be judged on poise, audience appeal, personality and overall appearance.

Applications may be obtained at the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce office at 208 W Main St., Inverness, or 28 NW U.S. 19, Crystal River. There is no entry fee and the applications must be returned to the Chamber office by Feb. 23. For information, call the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce at (352) 726-2801 (352) 795-3149.

Barbershoppers offer Valentine's Day gift treat

INVERNESS -- The Citrus County Barbershoppers offer a Valentine's Day gift of a serenade, along with a box of chocolates and a flower, for a $35 donation. Songs include Let Me Call You Sweetheart. Call Dan at 341-8466. Proceeds are contributed to Heartspring a research and treatment center for the speech-impaired.
