Letters to the EditorsDon't reward fuzzy logic about necktie
© St. Petersburg Times, published February 8, 2001 Editor: I read that a dedicated, experienced, competent and well-liked agricultural agent has been sent packing for not wearing a necktie by two unelected bureaucrats, one of whom, Richard Wesch, is the interim county administrator. In so doing, Mr. Wesch demonstrated that he has no sense of priorities and is therefore unfit to retain his job. Unfortunately, we are unable to vote against bureaucrats. On Jan. 30 I read that the elected county commissioners consider Mr. Wesch a finalist for the permanent job. Voters, here's your chance to right a wrong. Tell your commissioners now what you think of Mr. Wesch. Tell them he should not be rewarded for his fuzzy thinking. If any commissioner(s) should vote to hire him, I advocate forming a "Necktie Party" before the election to defeat that person. I'm sure many will rally to the cause.
Rep. Argenziano should apologizeEditor: The thousands of dedicated people who serve the frail elderly in long-term-care facilities did not deserve the insulting comments made about them recently by state Rep. Nancy Argenziano, R-Crystal River. To compare their hard work with the atrocities of the Nazis is offensive to professional caregivers everywhere and to this one in particular. Such remarks are particularly upsetting when coming from someone who is in a position of responsibility and who should know better than to make such outrageous statements. On behalf of all long-term-care facility professionals, I call on Rep. Argenziano to apologize for the hurt she has caused.
