Kindergarten -- Alexis Bean, Justin Carnevale, Taylor Ramsey, Greigh Savage, Dennis Tilton; First grade -- Vinceta Atkins, Brittany Cannon, Jordian O'Neal, Samantha Segars, Dalton Tinsley; Second grade -- JamiKay Binning, John Presti, Aaron Preston, Rebecca Roberts, Amanda Spooner; Third grade -- Dominic Brennan, Cameron Clark, Al Conti, Alyssa Gatlin, Lisa Lloyd, Sarah Warner; Fourth grade -- Jakera Larkin, Laura Norville, Nicholas Scurlock, Cristina Tremante, Megan Vinson; Fifth grade -- Joshua Chunn, Thomas Edwards, Kristie Hermanson, Paul Jensen, Corie Whitmenyer. CFCC AND STAFF WIN AWARDS: Central Florida Community College and some staff members received awards at the most recent Florida Association of Community Colleges convention. CFCC was named Region III Chapter of the Year and received a membership award for having 50 percent or more of its employees in the FACC. Citrus County Campus Provost James Harvey received the Administrator's Award for Professional Excellence; Student Leadership Development Coordinator Vanessa Baxley was recognized with the Cameron Hall Student Development Humanitarian Award; Baxley and Enrollment Services Assistant Luanne Ashlock received the Exemplary Practice Award for "The Enrollment Services Center-Integrating Student Services." DR. MARVIN DAVIES TO SPEAK: Dr. Marvin Davies, president/CEO, African American Action Alliance, will speak at the fifth annual African American Achievement and Recognition Awards Program at 2 p.m. Saturday at Curtis Peterson Auditorium, Lecanto. Davies is a civil rights and political activist who worked and marched with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He was at the forefront of the civil rights movement in Florida from 1963 to 1972. More recently, he was appointed by the Clinton administration as an adviser to the St. Petersburg south side community during a time of racial turmoil. He served as executive director of the NAACP of Florida for seven years. The program is sponsored by the African American Club of Citrus County. One hundred forty-three students in grades 4 through 12 will be recognized for academic achievement. For information, call 637-5650. COMPUTER COURSE STARTING AT CFCC: Central Florida Community College is offering Workplace Computer Skills from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning Wednesday through March 1. LECANTO HIGH PROJECT GRADUATION SEEKS SPONSORS: Project Graduation is a nation-wide, all volunteer program that provides fun-filled, tobacco-, drug- and alcohol-free, all-night celebrations for graduating seniors. The majority of Lecanto's Project Graduation funds will be raised through a bowl-a-thon fundraiser at Manatee Lanes, Feb. 24th by selling lane sponsorships to local businesses and concerned individuals/groups. Lane sponsorships are $250, and half-lane sponsorships are available for $125. Sponsors will have an advertisement banner displayed at Manatee Lanes for a month and will be listed on a flier sent to parents/guardians of LHS seniors. CFCC 'GETTING STARTED' SESSION: Information about becoming a student at Central Florida Community College will be available at a free "Getting Started" session. Topics will include financial aid resources and testing requirements. The 1-hour session will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 20 in Building 2, Room 103, at the CFCC Citrus County Campus in Lecanto. DUNNELLON: Dunnellon Middle School will have a Cultural Mosaic Festival at 7 p.m. (seating will begin at 6:30 p.m.) Feb. 23 in the school's auditorium. The festival will include international music, dances and poetry followed by international appetizers. GRAND OLE OPRY, CITRUS STYLE: Homosassa Elementary School presents its Grand Ole Opry, Citrus County Style, at 7 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Curtis Peterson Auditorium in Lecanto. Tickets are $7 in advance and $9 at the door.
