Brooksville Woman's Club to host Linen and Lace Tea

The Brooksville Woman's Club, 131 S Main St., Brooksville, will host its Linen and Lace Tea (a time to remember) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

There will be tea and lace cookies served as tables are available, or you may bring your own. Tables are available for vendors; the club asks for 10 percent of sales.

This event is open to the public. Admission is $3, which goes toward local charities and scholarships. For reservations or information, call Audrie at 754-8627 or Yvonne at 796-6026.

Healthy Start board meeting scheduled

The Central Healthy Start Coalition Board Meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday in Sumterville. The meeting will be held at the Thomas Langley Medical Center Administration Building B, 1489 S U.S. 301.

Church slates registration for food distribution

Hudson First United Methodist Church, 13123 U.S. 19, will hold its monthly SHARE registration Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. and Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. in the education building. Distribution will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Feb. 24.

SHARE is a food distribution program for everyone. For $14, participants can buy food packages valued from $25-$30 each. The only requirements are that participants register and pay $14 cash or food stamps and do two hours of community service. For information, call (727) 868-4575.

Holy Trinity church sponsors health fair

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will hold a free health fair 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at 1214 Broad St., Masaryktown.

The community is welcome to participate and get free health information. There will be free hand casts and balloons for children in addition to free snacks. This event is sponsored by Aid Association for Lutherans Branch 7900. Call Bob, 796-5899; Carolyn, 796-4066; or Don 596-8412.

Spring Hill Lions Club plans dinner-dance show

The Spring Hill Lions Club will host a dinner-dance show on Feb. 24 featuring Eddie Cash, "Musical Story Teller" of the 1950s and 1960s, and MC Peter Columbo. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., cocktails at 5 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m., show at 7 p.m. with dancing to follow. The menu consists of roast beef or chicken breast, potatoes, vegetable, salad, dessert, coffee or tea. Tickets are $15 and advance order is required for meals. There are no refunds after Feb. 16. Nature center offers archery demonstration

Chinsegut Nature Center, 232112 Lake Lindsey Road, Brooksville, will have a hands-on archery demonstration for beginners by John Weatherholt, hunting safety education officer, 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 24. Equipment will be provided. Call or write for free reservations, 754-6722.

Ladies auxiliary sponsors Valentine's Day event

SPRING HILL -- The Ladies Auxiliary Post 10209 is having a Valentine's Day Dinner/Dance, 1 to 6 p.m. Feb. 11, 15166 Spring Hill Drive.

The menu consists of chicken cordon bleu, potatoes, vegetable, fruit cup and dessert. There will be music and dancing from 3 to 6 p.m. Proceeds benefit the veterans. Tickets are $6.50 per person and available at bar or call Peggy, 686-6598, or the Post, 796-0398.

AMVETS schedules Valentine's Dinner Dance

SPRING HILL -- AMVETS Post 28 will have its first Valentine's Dinner Dance Feb. 16 at Bouma Hall, 1202 Kenlake Ave., Spring Hill.

A buffet dinner will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. and country western music is planned from 6 to 10 p.m. featuring Country Rhythm Boys & Carol. The dinner menu consists of turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls, iced tea; or ham, sweet potatoes, corn, dessert and coffee.

2 Hernando libraries to give tax assistance

The Hernando County Public Library System will offer tax assistance at two branches.

The East Hernando Branch Library in Ridge Manor at 754-4443 will provide volunteers from the V.I.T.A. program from 1 to 5 p.m. Mondays. The West Hernando/Foggia Library at 592-5606 will provide tax assistance through RSVP from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays. For information, call either branch.

Red Cross accepting donations for India

The American Red Cross is accepting donations for families in India who fell victim to the recent earthquake.

The Red Cross is currently assisting by doing the following: providing an initial $25,000 to help jump-start the relief operations and an additional $40,000 to purchase within India plastic sheeting and blankets. In addition, five American Red Cross international relief team members are in India coordinating with the Indian Red Cross society and planning how best to provide relief to the survivors.

All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by the voluntary donations of time and money from United States residents. To help the victims of this and other disasters, contributions can be made to the American Red Cross International Response Fund by calling (800) 435-7669, or (800) 257-7575 (Spanish).

Internet users can make a secure online credit card contribution by visiting www.redcross.org. Contributions to the Internation Response Fund may also be sent to your local American Red Cross Chapter or to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, DC 20013.
