TAMPACancer center schedules open house The Children's Cancer Center, 4901 W Cypress St., will host a volunteer orientation and open house from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and March 13. Volunteer opportunities include the following: programs, fundraising/special events, office and clerical support, and the 2001 holiday card project. Anyone interested in volunteering must attend an orientation. There will be a tour of the center, and information will be provided about programs and services. Also, a fundraising/special events committee is in the process of being formed. The Children's Cancer Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing children who have cancer or chronic blood disorders and their families with the skills necessary to cope with their life-threatening illnesses. For information, call (813) 356-1147. School sponsors parenting workshop Gorrie Elementary School, 705 DeLeon St., is sponsoring its eighth annual Parenting Workshop. The free workshop will be presented in two sessions: Session I -- 6:30-7:15 p.m. Tuesday, followed by Session II -- 7:30-8:15 p.m. Each parent may choose two topics for Session I and one topic for Session II. The following topics will be covered: Raising a Money Smart Child, presented by Joey Henderson, Consumer Credit Counseling Service; "No, I Won't and You Can't Make Me!" presented by Janet Green, certified parent educator; Drugs and Gangs -- Keeping Your Child Safe, presented by Allison Knowles, prevention specialist coordinator for the Mendez Foundation; and "Whose Homework Is This Anyway?" presented by Norma Matassini, faculty member at the University of Tampa. News anchor speaks to PC Users Group Al Ruechel, news anchor of Bay News 9, will speak at the next meeting of the South Tampa PC Users Group. Art school taking registration Funky As A Monkey Art School, 11091/2 W Waters Ave., is taking registration for its winter session II, which will begin Monday and continue through March 15. County administrator to speak The Town & Country Alliance will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, 8401 W Hillsborough Ave. Dan Kleman, Hillsborough County Administrator, will give his State of the County address and will answer questions about various county issues. The meeting is free and open to the public. The Town & Country Alliance is an umbrella group of civic associations, churches, schools and businesses who advocate for the betterment of the Greater Town 'N Country area and, for the improvement of quality of life issues that effect the entire community. WEST SHOREWomen business owners to meet The Tampa Bay Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners will host its next monthly dinner meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The meeting will be at the Wyndham Westshore Hotel, 4860 W Kennedy Blvd. A program will be presented on the topic "Pitch Your Business-An Evening of Networking and Marketing."
