South Florida senior forward Chonsey Asbury will miss up to two weeks after having arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Thursday afternoon.

Asbury had three pieces of cartilage removed. He had surgery in November to repair torn cartilage in the same knee.

"We are obviously very disappointed, but we're also happy that we're going to get a healthy Chonsey Asbury back," coach Seth Greenberg said. "We were looking forward to him filling the role left vacant by B.B. Waldon, but now we will have to look to fill Chonsey's spot in his absence. We'll just have to have somebody step up."

Asbury played four minutes in Wednesday night's loss to Memphis.

Teammate and friend Cedric Smith said this is a difficult time for Asbury.

"He's down because he hasn't been healthy since the first surgery and it's hard for him," Smith said. "I've been through it, but I sat out, had my rehab and came back and haven't had a problem since. I don't know what it's like to have a nagging problem. I know it's tough."

May trial likely for FSU's Tucker

Florida State sophomore forward Rodney Tucker, facing a first-degree felony charge of sexual battery on a physically helpless victim, looks to be heading for a May trial, his attorney said.

"We've taken some depositions and we're still in the process of going through the discovery procedure," attorney Clyde Taylor Jr. said after a case management hearing Thursday.

Another hearingis set for March 22.

"Then we'll probably look for a May trial date unless the case can get resolved short of that," Taylor said of the case that he calls a classic "he-said, she-said."

The charge carries a maximum of 30 years. Tucker, 20, has been indefinitely suspended since his arrest on Sept. 29, but has remained in school.

MISSOURI: Guard Clarence Gilbert, the Tigers' top scorer with Kareem Rush out for the season, was indefinitely suspended for "undisclosed internal disciplinary reasons." Gilbert, averaging 17 points, will not play Sunday at Iowa State. School spokesman Chad Moller, who said "it's not one thing that spurred this decision," said a timetable for Gilbert's return is undetermined. Coach Quin Snyder is scheduled to address the situation today. Snyder also dismissed junior reserve forward Kenge Stevenson from the team for "undisclosed internal reasons." Missouri has 10 players on the roster, including two walk-ons.

PURDUE: Forward Rodney Smith, the Boilermakers' leading scorer, could be sidelined a month because of a broken foot. A screw was inserted in his right foot after he was injured going for a rebound Wednesday against Wisconsin. Smith is averaging 14.8 points, and is second in rebounds (5.1) and blocks (1.3).

TENNESSEE: The Vols gave up a key rebound/basket in overtime in a loss to Arkansas on Wednesday because they didn't understand an out-of-bounds rule. When Arkansas' Joe Johnson's shot rolled on top of the backboard, the Vols didn't react (and Ron Slay started running downcourt) because they thought it was out of bounds. Johnson's easy rebound and layup gave the Razorbacks a 76-73 lead. Slay, upset by the non-call, refused to admit that Tennessee lost: "I think we won this game. I don't even think we're 5-4 (SEC). I'd say we're 6-3." According to the rule book, "The ball is out of bounds if it passes over the backboard from any direction." ... Tennessee point guard Tony Harris suffered a mild ankle sprain early and played three minutes. His status for Mississippi State on Saturday will depend on how much swelling occurs.

UNLV: President Carol Harter plans to meet today with Rick Pitino to try to convince the former Boston Celtics coach to take over the program. Harter said no offer is likely to be made at the meeting. Pitino said he will make a decision after UNLV's season ends.
