Young manatee found dead; necropsy planned

CRYSTAL RIVER -- A young manatee was found dead in Kings Bay this week and was retrieved at Pete's Pier by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on Friday, according to Jim Kraus, manager of the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge. The carcass was transported to the refuge offices and was scheduled to be picked up by state officials who will take it to St. Petersburg for a necropsy in the laboratory of the Florida Marine Research Institute.
Free carnations at Inverness Post Office
INVERNESS -- Postmaster Steve Hardeman has announced that the Inverness Post Office at 1400 U.S. 41 is giving a carnation to the first 100 women to come to the Post Office on Wednesday, Valentine's Day. The Post Office opens at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, and the carnations will disappear fast.
