Tropical Heatwave

The lineup for WMNF 88.5-FM's Tropical Heatwave, May 19 at the Cuban Club and its surrounding area in Ybor City, is taking shape and so far features Dave Alvin and the Guilty Men, North Mississippi Allstars, Kelly Hogan and the Pine Valley Cosmonauts, Blectum from Blechdom, Sam Rivers Rivbea Orchestra, the Abysinnians, Melissa Ferrick, King Chango, Michael Hill's Blues Mob, Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire, the Prodigals, the Paul Thorn Band, Wally Pleasant, Split Lip Rayfield, Magic Red and the Voodoo Tribe, River City High, the Fallopian Tubes and the Gita. Tickets are $25 advance, $30 at the door with a special youth rate of $12 for those ages 13-19. Tickets go on sale Monday through Ticketmaster and at all WMNF ticket outlets.

Family Valentine's fun

Children's singer Shana Banana and Seminole Chief Jim Billie will perform a free Family Valentine's concert at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Tampa Theatre, 711 Franklin St. in downtown Tampa. (813) 274-8984 or (800) 535-2228.

'Seven Deadly Sips'

NakedPoetry.com "editrix" RhondaK, singer/songwriter Jeremy Gloff, and performance artist BettyX perform Champagne (sham-pain), their version of the "seven deadly sips," 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Silver Meteor, 2213 E Sixth Ave., Ybor City, Tampa. The trio begins with a rendition of Tiny Bubbles and then, through a series of one-acts investigating pop culture, alcoholism, child abuse, office angst, punk rock and more, take the audience through decades of globe-trotting "champagne wishes and caviar dreams." A multimedia piece by Chris Temple, local poet and singer for Ashes of Grisum, will also be screened during the show. Admission is $7. (813) 247-6653.
