Class 3A, Region 3 girls semifinalBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published February 13, 2001 WHO: Land O'Lakes (23-5-1) at Seminole (20-4-0) WHEN: Tonight, 8 HOW THEY ADVANCED: Land O'Lakes defeated Plant 7-0 and Seminole beat Tampa Riverview 3-1 in the regional quarterfinals. THE SKINNY: In her 14 seasons at Land O'Lakes, Vicky King has had four teams come within two victories of the state final four. Twice the Gators lost in the sectional final and twice they bowed out of the playoffs in regional semifinals. This team, King feels, is better than those squads (1992-93, 1993-94, 1995-96 and 1997-98). "This is a much stronger team all-around. This team could have won those games." Land O'Lakes' Stacy Bishop (38 goals, 27 assists) is hot with eight playoff goals. Freshman keeper Shannon Aitken has 18 shutouts. The Gator defense will be tested by Brandi Herrmann (21 goals), Adrienne Ierna (17, 12), Autumn Baur (15, 16) and Kelly Gavaghan (14 goals). Sophomore keeper Nikki Paquette is one of the best in Pinellas County. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
