A reminder that students in schools throughout the county are doing plenty of counting and rolling of change to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The annual Pasta for Pennies contest is sponsored by the Olive Garden Restaurant, which provides a pasta luncheon or pizza party for winning classrooms at participating schools. Funds raised help benefit local research and provides patient aid services for Hodgkin's Disease, myeloma, leukemia and lymphoma patients. To donate, contact the school of your choice. NEWSMAKERSThe following Gulf Middle School eighth-graders have been named Outstanding Career and Technical Education students for the first semester: Amanda Fischer, Michelle Walicke, Robert LaRue, Keith Neubauer, Michael O'Toole, Samantha Batchelor, Corey Peterpaul, Kim Hildebrandt, John Hulsaver, Josh Moore, Bozo Maric, Korie Roberts, Jennifer Harris, Amy Thompson, Jelena Vuksanovic, Ryan Kiernan, Brent Morrow, Steven Burford, Ryan Hilgenberg and Coty Coluzzi. The following River Ridge High School seniors have been inducted into the National Honor Society: Jennifer Brumbaugh, Dhiptho Devabose, Jennifer Dombrowski, Christine Glenn, Sarah Green, Anton Kiriwas and Ryan O'Leary. Donna Garguilo has been named Teacher of the Year at Marchman Technical Education Center. Brenda Turner has been named School Related Person of the Year. John Brelsford, a student in the performance-based diploma program at Marchman Technical Education Center, won first place in a Pasco County essay contest for his essay "Envision the Future: Pasco County in Twenty Five Years." Kristen Harmon placed second. Brian Silliman was third. The following students have been elected officers of the Interact Club at Mitchell High School: Moira Gustin, president; Jennifer Smith, vice president; Melanie Moore, secretary; Shannon Keller, treasurer. During a holiday food drive, the Interact Club collected more than 3,500 canned goods. Students named to the All County High School Band were: Miles Dyer, Josh Hollenbeck and Lauren Bell.
