SECO scholarship

Sumter Electric Cooperative is offering up to 12 scholarships of $500 each to high school seniors in Marion, Citrus, Lake, Sumter, Pasco, Levy and Hernando counties. Each scholarship includes an additional $500 during the student's second year of advanced schooling. To qualify for a SECO Youth Scholarship, high school graduates must reside in a home served by SECO and be enrolled in an accredited college, university or vocational/technical school by the end of 2001. The deadline for applications is March 30. For information, contact school guidance counselors.

CITRUS COUNTY SHOOTING CLUB SCHOLARSHIP: Citrus County's Shooting Club is offering scholarships of up to $1,000 to graduating high school seniors interested in safe target shooting and personal responsibility with firearms. The scholarships are earned through competitive essays, grade point averages and the recommendations of teachers, advisers, guidance counselors or employers. The deadline is April 1. The following persons are contacts at the schools: Citrus High -- Doris Dabney; Crystal River High -- Pamela Knowles; Lecanto High -- Kristie Marshall; Seven Rivers Christian School -- Tom Evans; and Withlacoochee Technical Institute -- Joe Bucchere.

MEDICAL EDUCATION ASSISTANCE: Local students interested in a medical education are encouraged to contact the Seven Rivers Medical and Educational Foundation for financial assistance. The foundation was established to increase scholarship availability for Citrus County students. To apply, contact foundation president Peter DeRosa at 795-3633 or board member Elizabeth Stacklin at 795-8356.
