CHOCACHATTI ELEMENTARY: The school will hold orientation meetings at 4:30 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Feb. 27 for those parents wishing to apply to enroll their children for the 2001-02 year. Parents must attend one of these meetings to apply for the lottery, which will be in March to fill about 90 seats. Orientation will be held in the cafeteria. For information, call 797-7067.

SPRINGSTEAD HIGH: The band boosters will hold a silent auction Saturday in the cafeteria. Items up for auction include event tickets as well as certificates for meals, goods and services at local businesses and individual prizes. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the auction drawing beginning at 7. Call 797-7010 or 686-9795 for information.

PARROTT MIDDLE: The school's parent-teacher organization will meet at 6 p.m. Feb. 26 in the media center.

CENTRAL HIGH: Parents As Partners FCAT workshops will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday (for parents of 10th-graders) and Feb. 20 (for parents of ninth-graders) in the media center. Topics include helping children with study habits, test taking and homework. Call Lorna Lowe at 797-7020, ext. 6309 for sign-up information.

NEWSMAKERS

MOTON ELEMENTARY has dedicated its media center to the late Jean Martinchek, who died in November. Ms. Martinchek was the school's media specialist for more than 10 years.

Hernando High senior Helen Anne Travis was one of five students nationwide to receive a $250 scholarship from the Heather Joy Memorial Scholarship Award. The award was won for an original essay Helen Anne submitted last summer.

Shawn Wilson, Kenny Mills, Ian McIntosh, Derek Benson, Michael May, Andrew Raab and John Eppig recently were treated to a limo ride and lunch at Ryan's Family Steak House for being named students of the month at Fox Chapel Middle School.
