Police make no arrests in stabbing of 13-year-oldTimes staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published February 17, 2000 DADE CITY -- Police on Wednesday were still trying to piece together the Tuesday afternoon stabbing of a 13-year-old girl. Quantay Duggs, 37130 Main Ave., was recovering at home after spending Tuesday night in a Tampa hospital. No arrests had been made in the case as of late Wednesday. Police said Duggs was likely stabbed in the stomach by a 16-year-old girl, although witnesses have given investigators conflicting stories. Police did not release the suspect's name. "We're not even sure what happened," said Dade City police Capt. David Duff. The stabbing occurred in a parking lot near Duggs' apartment during an altercation involving "a lot of people," Duff said. It apparently was a continuation of an ongoing dispute between the suspect and Duggs' older sister, he said. Duggs walked home holding her side and, though her injuries were not life-threatening, she was airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa. Woman accused of battery with a rakeDADE CITY -- A 21-year-old Zephyrhills woman was arrested Tuesday night on charges of hitting another woman with a rake during a fight, the Dade City Police Department said. Witnesses said Danique Giles, 38110 13th Ave., hit the victim, whose name was not available, in the hand, ankle and back with a rake, according to reports. The incident occurred at 37211 Main Ave., which is near the scene of a stabbing that took place earlier Tuesday. Police do not believe the incidents are related. Charged with one felony count of aggravated battery, Giles was booked into the county jail in Land O'Lakes. She was held Wednesday in lieu of $2,500 bail. Man charged with abuse of 9-year-old boyDADE CITY -- A Dade City man was charged Tuesday with beating a 9-year-old boy with his hands and a tree branch last month, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said. On Jan. 5, a witness told police that Leopoldo Gonzalez, 43, 11346 Orange Tree Road, began beating the boy with his hands inside a car, according to reports. The boy got out of the car, followed by Gonzalez, who picked up a tree branch and gave chase. A second witness told police that Gonzalez hit the boy on his back and head with the branch as the boy lay on the ground. Charged with one felony count of child abuse, Gonzalez was released from the county jail Tuesday after posting $5,000 bail.
