CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Mike Dunn earned his 12th career Top Fuel qualifying spot for today's finals of the Checker Schuck's Kragen Nationals.
Dunn had a quarter-mile run Friday of 4.521 seconds at a top speed of 328.22 mph and nobody topped that time Saturday. The pass was second fastest in NHRA history and the quickest under the 90 percent nitro-methane rule. Larry Dixon was second in Top Fuel at 4.538, 320.58, followed by Doug Herbert and defending event champ Tony Schumacher.
Dean Skuza topped the Funny Car field and Mike Edwards led Pro Stock at Firebird International Raceway.
Skuza had a track-record run of 4.805 seconds at 308.57 mph to pace the fastest Funny Car field in NHRA history. Ten-time series champ John Force took the No. 2 position at 4.823, 313.15, followed by Whit Bazemore, who led after Friday and set a personal-best 4.835, 313.58 but slipped two spots.
Edwards had a track record of 6.886 and 199.88. Kurt Johnson (6.890, 200.74) was second and father Warren Johnson (6.892, 200.29) was third.
