    Ultrasound tests available Friday

    SEMINOLE -- Using ultrasound technology, sonographers will perform carotid vascular tests, abdominal aortic aneurysm tests, ankle brachial index screenings and osteoporosis screenings starting at 9 a.m. Friday, Faith Presbyterian Church, 11401 Walker Ave. N, sponsored by Life Line Screening. If results warrant, people will be advised to check with their physicians. The tests are $35 each. If a person has the three tests related to the heart, the cost is $95, and an osteoporosis test is $25 more. Advance registration is required by calling (800) 407-4557.

    Firehouse museum has openings for kids' tours

    LARGO -- The Kids Firehouse Museum, 9510 Kids Firehouse Ave., (south of Ulmerton Road at 95th Street) in Largo has openings for spring/summer tours for groups of children up to age 10. The firehouse has 11 antique firetrucks and a playground facility. Children are taught fire safety. Free admission, but donations accepted. Call 585-1300.

    It's time to apply for Helping Hands grants

    CLEARWATER -- The GFWC Clearwater Junior Woman's Club will award Helping Hands Community Grants to area charitable organizations. The grants, for up to $2,500, are awarded in the areas of the arts, conservation, education, home life, international affairs and public affairs. The application deadline is Feb. 23. They can be obtained by sending an e-mail to or by calling 723-0888.

    For early risers, a chance to exercise

    LARGO -- Start your day with exercise in a program sponsored by the Largo Recreation and Parks Department at the Southwest Recreation Complex, 13120 Vonn Road, Largo. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:30-7:30 a.m., instructor Janis Scot will lead participants through a vigorous program of stretching, toning and strengthening exercises. It costs $2.25 per class with a resident card or $2.75 without a card. For information, call 518-3125.
