Chili Cookoff scheduled Saturday at Turner Fish Camp

INVERNESS -- The Withlacoochee River Chili Cookoff begins at 2 p.m. Saturday at Turner Fish Camp on Hooty Point off Turner Camp Road, Inverness.

Contestants must bring at least two quarts of chili, capable of being heated over an open fire. Entries must be in by 3 p.m. Live music by Leather and Lace. Call 726-0085.

Alzheimer's group to hold Sponsor Appreciation Event

INVERNESS -- The Citrus County Alzheimer's Family Organization Steering Committee will have its annual Sponsor Appreciation Event from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Citrus Health and Rehabilitation Center, 701 Medical Court E.

Each year the organization sponsors a special appreciation for sponsors of the group's yearly fundraising project. Reservations are required and may be made by calling Kathy Hawke at Citrus Health and Rehabilitation Center, 860-0200.

This year's fundraising project will be the newly formed "Rock and Roll Rally" in early May at Nature Coast Lodge in Lecanto.

Master gardener to give talk on landscaping

INVERNESS -- The Citrus Memorial Hospital SHARE Club offers a monthly landscaping series at 10 a.m. on the fourth Wednesday of the month (Feb. 28) in the CMH Auditorium, corner of Grace Street and Osceola Avenue.

Master gardener Chet Olshewsky from the Citrus County Extension Office offers homeowners and other gardeners assistance with growing grass, trees and shrubs.

This month's topic will be "Lawn Care and Veggies." The program is free and open to the public. Registration is required by calling 344-6900. Reserved parking for the program will be available in the hospital's "Q" parking lot on the opposite corner of Grace Street and Osceola Avenue. The CMH shuttle will be available to take participants from the parking lot to the auditorium.
