NewsmakersBy Times staff reports © St. Petersburg Times, published February 22, 2001 KELLY RECOGNIZED FOR SUPPORT: The Citrus County School Readiness Coalition presented former school superintendent Pete Kelly with a plaque and letter of recognition for his support and active participation in the development of the coalition. The items were given to him at the Feb. 13 Citrus County School Board meeting. Kelly served as chairman of the Coalition from Aug. 4, 1999, to Nov. 7, 2000. Local School Readiness Coalitions, established by the Florida Legislature to provide direction and oversight to early education and care programs for children from birth until kindergarten, are responsible for promoting school readiness skills. The coalitions have representatives from agencies that provide support services to parents, prekindergarten programs, Even Start, subsidized child care, private, public and community child-care providers and those appointed by the chamber of commerce.
