Shaham to solo on Schumann's Piano Concerto
Orli Shaham is no longer in her brother's shadow. Pianist Shaham first became known to classical audiences as part of a duo with her famous violinist brother, Gil Shaham, but lately she has been playing more on her own, including appearances with the Cleveland and Philadelphia orchestras and a U.S. tour with the Jerusalem Symphony.
This weekend, Shaham is the soloist in Schumann's Piano Concerto with the Florida Orchestra. The performance reunites her with guest conductor Maximiano Valdes, with whom she made her professional soloist-with-orchestra debut as a teenager when he was music director of the Buffalo Philharmonic. The program also includes Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture and a pair of Spanish-themed works by French composers, Debussy's Iberia and Ravel's Bolero.

Seeing ghosts
Laura Daniel communes during a seance in The Uninvited, Dorothy Macardle's play about murder and ghostly apparitions, which opens tonight at St. Petersburg Little Theatre. Also in the cast are Kat Christie and Greg Rideout as the new owners of a suspiciously bargain-priced house overlooking the Irish Sea.
