Dunedin students dance to stamp out violence
The Dunedin High School Boy's and Girl's Step Team will host its second annual Students Against Violence Step-Off Extravaganza at 7 p.m. Friday at Dunedin High School, 1651 Pinehurst Road, Dunedin. The event will feature student drama and poetry. The highlight of the competition will be stepping, a rhythmic expression that evolved from African dance. Step teams from around the Tampa Bay area will use their hands, voice and feet to celebrate the importance of unity, diversity and tolerance. Tickets will cost $5 at the door. DUNEDIN -- Auditions will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday for individuals or groups interested in singing the national anthem during this year's Toronto Blue Jays spring training games. Tryouts will be at Grant Field, the team's spring training facility, and must be scheduled in advance by calling Rick Batto at 733-9302, ext. 2875.
SEMINOLE -- Olav Thulesius, a winter resident of Gulfport, will give a book review on Mandarin Tales written by Harriet Beecher Stowe at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Seminole Community Library, 9199 113th St. N, Seminole. Thulesius also has written on Stowe. Refreshments will be served. The meeting is sponsored by Friends of the Seminole Library. For information, call the library, 397-2112.
