Mardi Gras in Dunedin

The feeling of New Orleans, such as in this painting by Faith Krucina, Sentimental Journey II, will fill Dunedin on Tuesday as the city throws its 10th annual Mardi Gras party. The celebration comes complete with a 100-unit parade, bead tossing, music, food, beer and wine, and all sorts of revelry. The festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. along Main Street between Broadway Street and Louden Avenue downtown. Many of the shops and galleries are open late; arts and crafts displays will be set up around downtown. Music includes DJ Megadose from 5 to 6 p.m., 8:30 to 9 and 10 to 10:20; Hangtown from 6 to 7:30 p.m.; and the Thrusters from 9 to 10 p.m. and 10:20 to 11:30. The parade leaves Dunedin Stadium at 7:30 p.m. and heads north on Douglas Avenue to Main Street. Local radio and TV personality Nancy Alexander is the grand marshal. The event is free. Pets are not allowed. For information, call (727) 298-3196.
