LECANTO -- An Oregon businessman plans to build a 6,500-square-foot retail strip with five stores on the north side of State Road 44, about a half mile east of County Road 491. The 3-acre site, which already is zoned for commercial development, would include a 6,000-square-foot store that may serve as an automobile service center, said Realtor Kevin Cunningham. The county already has approved the site plan, but no retailers have signed on for the storefronts, he said. Cunningham said the property owner, Bob Christianson, hopes to get several stores interested before starting construction later this year.

OCALA -- Kentucky planning consultant Michael Moehlman has been hired as the new executive director of the Withlacoochee Regional Planning Council, an organization that advises Citrus, Hernando, Levy, Marion and Sumter counties on development. Moehlman has worked as a private consultant and a government planner, and he served four years as the city administrator of Ludlow, Ky. He starts in Ocala on March 1. Moehlman replaces Linda Sloan, who resigned last March.
