CHILI CONTEST: The Withlacoochee River Chili Cookoff begins at 2 p.m. Saturday at Turner Fish Camp on Hooty Point off Turner Camp Road, Inverness. Contestants must bring at least two quarts of chili, capable of being heated over an open fire. Entries must be in by 3 p.m. Live music by Leather and Lace. Call 726-0085.

DINNER THEATER: The play Squabbles concludes its run as dinner theater this weekend in the Hampton Room at Andre's Restaurant in Citrus Hills. The play is presented by Gulf Islands Civic Theatre. Dinner is served at 5 p.m., and the performance is at 6:15 Friday and Saturday. Sundays times are meal at 1:30 p.m., show at 2:45. Call Andre's at 746-6855 for reservations.

COMMUNITY THEATER: Stagecrafters dinner theater presents That Was No Lady, That Was a Private Eye Saturday through Monday at Sugarmill Woods Clubhouse. The play is a spoof of a Sam Spade or Phillip Marlow crime mystery. Show times Saturday through Monday are a social hour at 5:30, meal at 6 and show at 7 p.m. Sunday matinee begins with brunch at 1 p.m. and the show at 2. Call 382-4417.

ART SHOW: The Beverly Hills Art Group meets from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at the Central Ridge Library in Beverly Hills. Guest demonstrator is George Sobota, watercolorist and instructor. Members can bring a recent framed painting for a vote on which one will be displayed at the library in March. The art group will be holding an art show from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 24 at the Beverly Hills Community Building, 1 Civic Circle. Call Cal at 527-9426.

ART LEAGUE MEMBERSHIPS: The Citrus County Art League is having a membership drive. The art league meets the second Thursday of the month from September to May. At each meeting, there are informative programs about fine arts, performing arts and photography. The league also hosts classes and workshops and produces plays. Memberships are $25 for a single, $35 for a couple and students $10. Call Anne at 746-0031.

SCHOLARSHIP DINNER: The Citrus County Art League will host a scholarship benefit dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday at the center, 2644 N Annapolis Ave., off County Road 486 west of Hernando. The theme is "Dinner with Napoleon." Guests will join Napoleon on the battlefield following his victory at Marengo. Dinner will be chicken marengo, with Napoleons for dessert. Marian Fox will give a presentation about Napoleon. Dinner is by reservation only. Cost is $25. Call Dottie at 628-6839.Call 746-7606.

AUDITIONS: The Citrus County Art League will hold auditions for A Thousand Clowns at 7 p.m. March 12 at 13 at the center, 2644 N Annapolis Ave., off County Road 486 west of Hernando. The play has roles for four men and a boy. The play is about a free-wheeler who battles bureaucracy to raise his nephew. Call director Peter Abrams at 746-1123.

AUDITIONS: Gulf Islands Civic Theatre will have auditions for Don't Drink the Water, a Woody Allen comedy, at 7 p.m. on Feb. 27, 28 and March 1 at the Hampton Room of Andre's Restaurant. Call 795-0936.

FOLK MUSIC FESTIVAL: The Will Mclean Music Festival will be from 10 a.m. to midnight March 10 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 11 at Sertoma Youth Ranch near Dade City. Admission is $17 for a weekend ticket before March 2. Send check payable to Will McLean Foundation and self-addressed, stamped envelope to Tickets, 20232 Palmetto Lane, Dunnellon, FL, 34432. Tickets at the gate are $20 weekend, $12 for Saturday and $10 for Sunday. Pay for camp sites on arrival. ART FESTIVAL: The Eighth Annual Rainbow Springs Art Festival will be from 8:30 to 4:30 March 3 and 4 at Rainbow Springs State Park, U.S. 41 N, Dunnellon. Members of the Citrus Watercolor Club, The Beverly Hills Art Group and the Ocala Art Group will combine for the show. Admission is $1.

CFCC ART SHOW: Central Florida Community College in Lecanto will host the Fourth Annual Art on Campus spring festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 31 to April 1. The show features juried art competition, workshops, food and live entertainment. Call 746-6721.

ART WORKSHOP: A sumi-e workshop conducted by Susan Frame will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 10 and 11 at the Citrus County Art League, 2644 N Annapolis Ave., off County Road 486 west of Hernando. Sumi-e is done with simple brush strokes using ink and watercolor. Cost is $55 for non-members and $45 for members. Bring a bag lunch. Call Ginger at 527-6524.
