With 7 players, Florida handles LSU

GAINESVILLE -- Playing only seven players because of various injuries, No. 11 Florida defeated No. 14 LSU 67-59 behind a 21-point performance by guard Brandi McCain.

The junior guard was 8-of-17 from the field. Center Vanessa Hayden added 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Gators (22-4, 10-3 SEC), who had lost 2 of 3 before defeating the Tigers (17-9, 7-6). Guard Monique Cardenas added 14 points for Florida.

McCain had 13 points in the first half, including a three-pointer to give Florida its halftime margin of 31-22. The nine-point lead was the largest of the half for the Gators.

While McCain was hot from the field, the Tigers struggled, especially in the first half as they shot 9-for-31 (29 percent), including 1-for-8 from behind the three-point line. LSU shot only 33.3 percent for the game.

Forward DeTrina White had 17 points and 13 rebounds for the Tigers, and April Brown and Marie Ferdinand added 13 apiece.

Among those missing the game for Florida was starting guard Tombi Bell, who has a concussion.

CLEMSON 63, FLORIDA STATE 49: Chrissy Floyd scored 14 and the visiting Tigers moved into second place in the ACC. Clemson outscored Florida State 20-4 in the final 8:29 to break the Seminoles' five-game winning streak. Levys Torres led Florida State with 14 points, and Katelyn Vujas and April Traylor each had 10. Florida State (17-9, 9-6) came into the game in second place in the ACC and led 32-29 at halftime.

GEORGIA STATE 67, JACKSONVILLE 54: Dolphins freshman forward Yolisha Jackson scored 13 off the bench, but it was not enough on the road in a TAAC contest.
