BOCA CIEGA (17-11) at SARASOTA (27-4)
WHEN: 7:30 p.m. Saturday. ADMISSION: $5.
HOW THEY ADVANCED: Boca Ciega won at Ridgewood 41-38 and at Wharton 45-42. Sarasota beat Plant 61-40 and East Lake 76-39.
THE SKINNY: Sarasota, ranked fourth in 5A, prefers an up-tempo style that starts with a pickpocketing defense. A young East Lake team tried to slow the pace Tuesday, failed, and the game was over by halftime. Now a young Bogie team will try the same tactic. But the Sailors are well aware of sophomore star Kelcey Roegiers-Jensen's ball-handling (the teams met in a November tip-off classic, with Sarasota winning 91-71), and few fast breaks are likely to start off turnovers from her. Bogie will have to closely watch Sarasota senior guard Maggie Carlough (45 points in the last two games, including four three-pointers against the Eagles).
GETTING THERE: Take Interstate 275 south to Exit 2 (Palmetto/Bradenton). Keep left at fork 6 miles ahead. Remain on U.S. 41/U.S. 301 for 10 miles, which then becomes N. Washington Boulevard/U.S. 301. Stay left through downtown onto S. Tamiami Trail, then left on Bahia Vista Street and left on South School Avenue. Gym and parking are one block ahead on the left.
