Millennium Home stands out in Hernando ParadeBy Times staff © St. Petersburg Times, published February 24, 2001 What: Hernando Parade of Homes, showcase of new residential construction. Nineteen model homes by 13 builders. Where: Pristine Place, a gated subdivision on Spring Hill Drive in Hernando County, just west of the new Suncoast Parkway. When: Today through March 11. Models are open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. What's different: This year's parade features the Millennium Home designed by Steven Palma of Paramount Design and built by Palmwood Builders. The home has four bedrooms, three baths (one with a heart-shaped tub) and a study in 3,163 square feet of living space. "The whole house revolves around a courtyard," Palma said, with views of the pool from every room. The house is wired to control entertainment, lights, appliances and security systems through a voice-activated computer system. The house has 8-foot doors, raised ceilings and a guest suite that could be home to a parent or an adult child. The three-car garage is entered from a motor court on the stamped-concrete driveway. The exterior is a French country design with earth-tone cultured stone. "We've taken a floor plan that is a typical Spring Hill plan and made it very elegant," said Palma, a certified professional residential designer. He worked with a committee to incorporate the features they thought would appeal strongly to buyers. "We've gone above and beyond the normal things you see in a home" in Hernando County, he said. The house is priced at $375,000 including site. Part of the proceeds from its sale will go to Habitat for Humanity. The Hernando Builders Association will also benefit.
