Former USF tackle Joe Condron was arrested near Brooksville late Tuesday night and charged with felony possession of marijuana and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Condron, listed at 6 feet 7, 390 pounds in police reports, started at right tackle as a freshman in 1999, but withdrew from school the next spring. After a semester at Pasco-Hernando Community College, the 20-year-old re-enrolled in January and met with coaches about returning. He was to be evaluated during spring practice for consideration to earn his scholarship back in the fall, but has since withdrawn from school.

Police found a "plastic water-based bong" and four plastic bags determined to contain 23.3 grams of marijuana in Condron's black Ford utility vehicle. He and three other men -- including two other former Brooksville Central football players -- had taken a 27-year-old man from a movie theater to a bank to withdraw $200 to pay for drugs he had purchased two years ago, according to police reports.

USF coach Jim Leavitt was at a golf tournament Friday and did not return calls to his office. Condron did not return a message left at his home.

JONES IMPROVING: Doctors in Honolulu were optimistic about Hawaii coach June Jones' chances for a full recovery, a day after he was critically injured in a car crash. Jones was upgraded to guarded condition after regaining consciousness and moving his arms and legs. Dr. Gail Tominaga, director of trauma services at the Queen's Medical Center, said Jones was responding to questions.

UAB: Former Alabama and NFL linebacker Woodrow Lowe was hired as linebackers coach.

UCF: Tailback Terrance Williams of Clearwater High has a right hip strain and will be held out of this morning's first spring scrimmage. Safety Atari Bigby is out with a sore right shoulder.
