Packers waive LB Williams
Outside linebacker Brian Williams, a big part of the Green Bay Packers' success in the late 1990s, was waived Friday, saving $2.75-million against the $67.4-million salary cap for next season.
In other news, Henry Burris, quarterback for the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders, signed with Green Bay.

RUNNING: Stephanie Graf beat Olympic 800-meter champion Maria Mutola at the Flanders Indoor meet in Ghent, Belgium. Graf's time was 1 minute, 58.82 seconds, with Mutola .03 behind. Hicham El Guerrouj was .23 seconds off the world record in the 2 miles, finishing in 8 minutes, 9.89 seconds.
COLLEGES: The USF men's tennis team beat North Carolina 6-1. ... Nathan Overholser tied Florida's school record for career doubles wins (88) but the men's tennis team lost 5-2 to Texas A&M. ... The USF women led Houston by 71/2 points after the first day of the Conference USA Indoor Track Championships. ... Tampa improved to 11-0 with a 6-2 baseball win over Saint Leo. ... Georgia Tech third baseman Mark Teixeira, last year's national player of the year, broke his right ankle and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks. ... BOXING: A federal judge in Charlotte decided to release former heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe from jail, but with strict limitations including 24-hour electronic monitoring. Bowe is charged with assaulting his wife.
BOWLING: Jason Couch advanced to the championship game of the PBA Tour's the Villages Open, finishing 185 pins ahead of Chris Barnes.
SLED DOG: Tim Osmar won the Yukon Quest race, completing the 1,000-mile trip from Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, to Fairbanks, Alaska, in 11 days, 14 hours, 38 minutes.
