A vending machine in Caldwell, Ohio, featuring a life-sized photo of Dale Earnhardt was stolen in the wake of Earnhardt's death, a deputy investigating the crime said.

"If it is an Earnhardt fan, stealing "The Intimidator's' memorabilia is a poor way to honor a hero," Detective Stephen Hannum of the Noble County Sheriff's Office said.

The Coca-Cola vending machine was stolen two or three days after Earnhardt's accident Sunday at the Daytona 500. Authorities have told area businesses to look out for overzealous Earnhardt fans or profiteers trying to cash in.
