A look back at the week's top stories

TWO KILLED IN POSSIBLE MURDER-SUICIDE: Authorities investigated what appeared to be a murder-suicide in the Hill Countryside Estates community off State Road 44 west of Inverness. Dead were Meghan Bryde Durling, 20, of 701 Moray Drive, Inverness, and Troy Scott Truax, 28, of 1400 S Alto Verde Ter., which is where the shootings took place. Durling and Truax were a former couple and had a child.

NEW TAX SUGGESTED: During their annual goal-setting session, county commissioners discussed the possibility of bringing a 1-cent sales tax proposal back to the voters to finance the growing needs of several local agencies and needs, such as water-quality projects, the School Board, public safety and the Citrus County Sheriff's Office.

MORE JOB CUTS AT FLORIDA POWER: Florida Power announced a new round of work force reductions, eliminating 50 union jobs from its four coal-burning plants in Crystal River. Last month, the utility cut 60 employees from its nuclear plant. The company said both moves were necessary to make the fossil fuel operation more competitive.

ADAMS TRIAL STARTS: Citrus County's year-old lawsuit against Scott Adams and Charlie Strange went to trial, with the county asking a judge to permanently close the duo's logging and mulching business at County Road 486 unless the businessmen get a development permit. The county presented its case; the court then granted a continuance so Adams and Strange, who are representing themselves, could gather more evidence for their defense. Strange was released from jail later in the week; he was being held for contempt of court.

PROJECTS DELAYED: Citing concerns raised by dozens of Beverly Hills residents, the developer of a proposed 120-unit apartment complex has asked for additional time to revise its plans before a final hearing on the project. Separately, a Tampa company's plan to build an affordable housing complex north of Crystal River Mall has been delayed for at least a year until funding is available from the county.
